MMP 2025 Outcomes

The MONO MAKERS PROGRAM 2025 resulted in two outstanding collaborations that explored new possibilities for interior design through traditional Japanese textile techniques.

1. The Grand Prize Pair: Erika Kojima (Kojima Orimono Co., Ltd.) & Samira Boon
The collaboration between Erika Kojima of Kojima Orimono Co., Ltd., a luxury wallpaper manufacturer specializing in traditional weaving techniques, and Dutch designer Samira Boon, who approaches textiles from an architectural perspective, led to the development of a vertical blind made from woven wallpaper.

2. The Jury’s Special Prize: Yosuke Uebayashi (Katsumi Shoten Co., Ltd.) & Lena Winterink
The Jury’s Special Prize collaboration between Yosuke Uebayashi of Shobien Kyoto (Katsumi Shoten Co., Ltd.), a Kyoto-based producer of Roketsu dye textiles, and Dutch designer Lena Winterink (Studio Lena Winterink) resulted in an accordion-style textile blind, offering a fresh and contemporary expression of Roketsu dye craftsmanship.

Both newly developed products were unveiled at the Kyoto International Gift Show, held on March 11–12, 2026, demonstrating the programme’s ability to transform cross-cultural exchange into tangible, market-ready outcomes.

Featured in MONO JAPAN Fair 2026, Rotterdam

In addition, as part of the Cultural Programme at MONO JAPAN Fair 2026, the MMP 2025 teams presented their work through a special lecture held at Nieuwe Instituut in January 2026.

Alongside the lecture, the projects were also featured in a special exhibition at Supernova Hotel during MONO JAPAN Fair. The exhibition showcased contemporary objects created through past MMP collaborations, highlighting the creative dialogue between Japanese makers and Dutch designers, and demonstrating how tradition and innovation can come together through international exchange.
