MMP 2026
| published by MONO MAKERS MEET

As part of the MONO MAKERS PROGRAM (MMP), NN organizes an annual study tour to the Netherlands for Japanese business successors. This year’s participants included the 2026 MMP-selected makers Hiroyasu Tatsumi of Tatsumi Wooden Handle Manufacturing Co. and Yasuki Yamagishi of Yamagishi Washi Inc.

Exploring Dutch Business, Culture and Design

The study tour began at NN Group’s headquarters, home to our long-standing partner, NN Life Insurance Company. The group then visited The Hague City Hall to learn about the city’s approach to urban development, followed by the Mauritshuis, home to some of the Netherlands’ most celebrated masterpieces.

Visiting Designers, Makers and Retailers

The programme introduced participants to different approaches to design, craftsmanship and product presentation. The group visited the Studio Sabine Marcelis, an artist and designer working in object and installation design.

At TOMASU Soy Sauce, home to what the company describes as Europe’s first micro-brewed soy sauce, participants discovered its distinctive production approach, combining traditional fermentation with contemporary practices.

In Amsterdam, the group visited Misc Store, featuring a curated selection of stationery, everyday carry items, design objects and furniture, including Japanese products; and Doguya, a specialist shop selling and servicing Japanese knives, tools and wares.

The NN Study Tour connects Japanese business successors with Dutch designers, businesses and cultural institutions, encouraging the exchange of perspectives across cultures. The tour complements MMP’s broader support for product development, networking, market research, exhibitions and test marketing in Europe.

As part of this year’s programme, participants also hosted a one-day pop-up of MMP at MONO JAPAN Store on 21 October. Stay tuned for more insights and our upcoming pop-up recap.
