MONO MAKERS PROGRAM: Progress Update on Japan-Netherlands Collaborations
The MONO MAKERS PROGRAM, co-organized by NN Life Japan and MONO JAPAN, is a unique initiative that brings together Japanese craftsmanship and Dutch creative talent.
This year, the program’s finalists, Shohei Kubo of Kansai Makitorihaku Co., Ltd., and Sigrid Calon, as well as special award winners Tsuyoshi Kato of Kato Kenki Co., Ltd., and Laura Luchtman of Kukka, have been collaborating to develop innovative products and artworks that blend tradition with contemporary design.
In September, during the MONO JAPAN event, an interim presentation was held featuring these four participants along with Yumiko Hoya from NN Life Japan. The session highlighted the deep respect Dutch designers have for the traditional techniques and cultural heritage of their Japanese partners, while also exploring how these elements can inspire forward-looking collaborations.

Mr. Kubo and Mr. Kato shared their experiences and aspirations for this initiative, introducing their products and showcasing their technical expertise to the Dutch audience. Their enthusiasm underscored the importance of building bridges between cultures through shared creativity and mutual appreciation.
Stay tuned as these collaborations continue to evolve, shaping the future of craftsmanship and cross-cultural design.
